Sampath Bank led by Swanji Madanayake, strengthen by their new recruits, Rangana Herath (42), Charitha Buddhika (40) & Suboda Jayawardena (40) & Chamara Zoysa (42) clinched the 2nd Maliban – MCA Masters “Sixes” 2020 title, as they comfortably beat HNB “B”, in the Final at the MCA Grounds on Saturday (29th August)
The tournament participated by 12 teams in 04 groups was sponsored by Maliban Biscuits Manufactories (Pvt) Ltd for the 2nd successive year.
Sampath Bank (Average age of team 43.4) entered the Final from DS Senanayake College Grounds, beating, Sri Lanka Telecom, HNB “A” & Allianz Insurance (Semi Finals).
HNB “B” (average age of team 46.0) entered the Final from MCA Grounds, beating Singer Sri Lanka, John Keells and Fairfirst Insurance (Semi finals)
In the final HNB “B” batting first was restricted to 55 for 03 in 05 overs by some exceptional fielding by Sampath Bank ; a brilliant catch taken by Chamara Zoysa in the deep that dismissed Nimesh Perera (20) and the direct hit made on the run by Rangana Herath that dismissed Sajeewa de Silva (21).
Sampath Bank reached their target with 05 deliveries to spare – 57 for 2, helped by an opening stand of 42 runs in 19 balls by Shantha Kalavitigoda (25 with 05 fours) & Charitha Buddhika (18 with 03 fours)
