The long-cherished dream of Sri Lankan cricket enthusiasts residing in Naples, Italy, became a reality with the official inauguration of the “Napoli Knights Cricket Club” (Napoli Knights CC) and the ceremonial opening of their new Practice Wicket. The grand event took place on December 07, 2025.
This newly established sports club, located at Via Lattanzio 46, 80126, Napoli, serves as a valuable haven for Sri Lankans in Italy to actively engage in the game of cricket.
🙏 Commencing with Religious Blessings
Recognizing the indispensable need for blessings in any auspicious undertaking, the ceremony commenced with the recitation of Seth Pirith and blessings offered by the Venerable Maha Sangharatne (Buddhist Monks) and a revered Father. The organizing committee’s goal was to begin this journey with pure thoughts, prioritizing religious values before the sport.
🌟 Chief Guest and Special Recognitions
The event was graced by Mr. Manoj Rodrigo, the Head Coach of the Royal Padova Sports Club in Italy, who attended as the Chief Guest. Mr. Rodrigo is highly respected for bringing international recognition to the Sri Lankan name by breaking a four-decade-old record in Italian cricket history.
During the event, two special commemorative plaques were awarded in recognition of exceptional service to the club:
- To Mr. Manoj Rodrigo: Presented by the President of Napoli Knights CC, Mr. Sudheera Chamith.
- To Signor Guido De Novelli: Presented by Mrs. Ayesha.
Mr. Senaka Adhikari, a veteran teacher highly respected among the Sri Lankan community in Naples, also participated. His valuable advice and guidance on how to rise in society not only as skilled players but also as good human beings were a great asset to the team’s future journey.
🏏 Unveiling the New Practice Wicket and Player Talents
The opening of the new Practice Wicket, constructed with the aim of nurturing future cricket stars, was also marked at the venue. The team’s Head Coach, Mr. M.K. Subhash, officially inaugurated the practice sessions by playing the First Ball Batting.
The impressive Bowling Action displayed confidently by Dilini, a player representing the women’s cricket team, was highly praised by all attendees, signaling a positive future for the club.
