ජාත්‍යන්තර පාපන්දු සම්මේලනයේ සභාපති ගිආනි ඉන්ෆැන්ටිනෝ (Gianni Infantino) මහතා සමඟ මාධ්‍ය හමුවක් (19) දින පස්වරුවේ කොළඹ තාජ් සමුද්‍රා හෝටලයේදී පැවැත්විනි.
කොළඹ තුරඟ තරග පිටියේ පැවැත්වූ “අගමැති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ කුසලාන” පාපන්දු තරගාවලියේ අවසන් මහා තරගයේ ප්‍රධාන ආරාධිතයා වශයෙන් සහභාගී වූ ගිආනි ඉන්ෆැන්ටිනෝ මහතා දිවයිනට පැමිණයේ ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුල පාපන්දුවේ අලුත් වෙනසක් සනිටුහන් කරමිනි.
ලෝක පාපන්දු සම්මේලනය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පාපන්දු ක්‍රීඩාව ප්‍රචලිත කිරීම සඳහා පූර්ණ සහාය ලබා දෙන බව ඉන්ෆැන්ටිනෝ මහතා ශ්‍රී ලංකා පාපන්දු සම්මේලනයේ සභාපති ජස්වර් උමර් මහතා සමඟ සඳහන් කළේය.
පාසල් ළමුන් අතර පාපන්දු ක්‍රීඩාව ජනප්‍රිය කරවීමෙන් ඔවුන් මනා ශික්ෂණයෙන්, කණ්ඩායම් හැඟීමෙන් සහ විනයගරුක බවින් ගොඩනැඟිය හැකි බව සභාපතිවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.
පාපන්දු අඩු පහසුකම් සහිත ක්‍රීඩාවකි. එම නිසා ග්‍රාමීය මට්ටමින් ඉතා පහසුවෙන් එය ප්‍රචලිත කළ හැකි ය. ඒ සඳහා තම සම්මේලනයේ සහාය නොඅඩුව ලබා දෙන බවත්, කොළඹ හෝ ඊට ආසන්න ප්‍රදේශයක අංගසම්පූර්ණ පාපන්දු ක්‍රීඩාංගණයක් ඉදි කිරීමට සහාය ලබා දෙන බවත් ගිආනි ඉන්ෆැන්ටිනෝ මහතා පැවසීය.
ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට පසුගිය කාලය තුළ ජාත්‍යන්තර මට්ටමේ පාපන්දු තරග කිහිපයක් ජය ගැනීමට හැකිවීම ඇගයීමට ලක් කළ ලෝක පාපන්දු සම්මේලනයේ සභාපතිවරයා, ක්‍රීඩා කටයුතු ඉහළ නැංවීමට අමාත්‍ය නාමල් රාජපක්ෂ මහතා හා ජස්වර් උමර් මහතා ගන්නා උත්සාහය ඇගයීමට ලක් කළේය.
ලෝක පාපන්දු සම්මේලනයේ සභාපතිවරයා ලෙස මෙරටට පැමිණීම පිළිබඳ ශ්‍රී ලංකා පාපන්දු සම්මේලනයේ සභාපති ජස්වර් උමර් මහතා ජියානි මහතා ඇතුළු නියෝජිත පිරිසට සිය ප්‍රශංසාව පළ කළහ.
A media conference with the president of FIFA Mr. Gianni Infantino was held on the 19th of November at the Taj Samudra hotel.
The arrival of the FIFA president as the chief guest for the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy finale which took place at the Race Course grounds signalled a new era for football in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Gianni Infantino spoke at length to the President of the FFSL Jaswar Umar regarding how FIFA was fully supportive of bringing awareness and popularity to the sport of football in Sri Lanka.
He stated that making the sport popular among school-goers will instill a sense of discipline and sportsmanship among them.
In Sri Lanka, football is a sport that does not have the prominence and facilities that it should. Despite this, the sport has a big potential in rural areas. The FIFA president indicated that the federation will provide all the support to achieve this, while also assisting in the creation of a well-equipped football stadium in Colombo or in an area close to it.
Mr. Gianni Infantino was appreciative of the Sri Lankan team’s ability to win several international matches in recent times. He also appreciated the efforts made by Minister Namal Rajapaksa and FFSL President Jaswar Umar.
The FFSL President expressed his gratitude and praised the FIFA president’s initiative to visit Sri Lanka.
